Well, it looks like the Seminfinals might just as well have been called The Round Where Prog Metal Comes To Die; today's the other bright hope for djenty brainrock, TesseracT, failed to overcome Decapitated's staggering barbarism. At the risk of repeating myself, “One” is as compelling and crucial a debut album from a metal band as any I can remember, including Cynic's “Focus”. It's a testament to the album's genius that it made it this far, triumphing over the brawn of American Heritage and the squirrelly brains of Protest The Hero. Alas, “Carnival Is Forever” is both clever and cruel, every bit as listenable and fresh as “One”. Decapitated delivers the superior goods, and tears down TesseracT as the Semifinals draw to a quick close.
On Monday, six weeks of outstanding metal come to a glorious conclusion, with one band reigning over all the others. Will it be The Human Abstract, or will it be Decapitated?
