Wow. I didn't realize until today just how much The Human Abstract's “Digital Veil” outclasses the drive-by approach of DevilDriver's “Beast”. “Beast” is definitely a sick experience, but it doesn't really leave a lasting afterglow or residue or anything. “Digital Veil” by comparison has staying power. Even when the obvious neoclassical tropes start to feel gimmicky after too many listens, it's still just a more memorable, hauntingly enjoyable experience. The Human Abstract advances to the Semifinals, and will challenge Textures on Thursday.
Tomorrow, the last Quarterfinal pits Decapitated against Between The Buried And Me, in a matchup that leaves subtlety at the door and instead just goes for facemelting.
