February starts with a heartbreaker of a fight, between Decapitated's “Carnival Is Forever” and Leprous's “Bilateral”. See, I love “Bilateral”. More than any other album last year, this one charmed the metal pants right off me. And, again, what it lacks in full frontal metal, it makes up for with originality, exploring the bounds of what progressive metal can get away with, while still delivering the goods from end to end. So yeah, I fell hard for this sweet album. It's like the Zooey Deschanel of metal.
Which makes “Carnival Is Forever” the Brody Dalle of thrash. And in today's contest, it's the bigger asskicker that takes the prize. Decapitated wins!
Tomorrow, the Round Of 16 comes to a close, pitting Machine Head against Between The Buried And Me.
